Herein, we report the synthesis of a quaternary selenide, In<sub>0.5<\/sub>Mn<sub>2<\/sub>Bi<sub>3.5<\/sub>Se<sub>8<\/sub>, that exhibits good thermal stability below 1032&nbsp;K. Whereas most pavonite compounds exhibit the metallic properties of degenerate semiconductors, In<sub>0.45<\/sub>Mn<sub>2.17<\/sub>Bi<sub>3.38<\/sub>Se<sub>8<\/sub>&nbsp;possesses a band gap of 0.85&nbsp;eV. In addition, its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/materials-science\/electrical-conductivity\">electrical conductivity<\/a>&nbsp;and Seebeck coefficient exceed 3&nbsp;S\/cm and 300 \u03bcV\/K at 810&nbsp;K, respectively, with the compound mainly displaying&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/materials-science\/semiconductor-property\">semiconductor properties<\/a>. In<sub>0.45<\/sub>Mn<sub>2.17<\/sub>Bi<sub>3.38<\/sub>Se<sub>8<\/sub>&nbsp;exhibits paramagnetism at room temperature followed by a paramagnetic-to-antiferromagnetic transition at \u223c10.2&nbsp;K.
