Mater.<\/i> 2021, May 4, 2021, 33, 3621-3630<\/a><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/na101\/home\/literatum\/publisher\/achs\/journals\/content\/cmatex\/0\/cmatex.ahead-of-print\/acs.chemmater.1c00441\/20210504\/images\/medium\/cm1c00441_0010.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Trivalent chromium ion-doped\u00a0near-infrared\u00a0(NIR)\u00a0phosphors\u00a0have been widely studied due to their tunable emission wavelengths and broad applications. High Cr3+\u00a0concentration\u00a0can improve absorption\u00a0efficiency\u00a0but generally results in low emission intensity due to the\u00a0concentration\u00a0quenching\u00a0effect. Herein, we report a series of\u00a0efficient\u00a0NIR\u00a0phosphors\u00a0with\u00a0suppressed\u00a0concentration\u00a0quenching, Sr9M1\u2013<i>x<\/i>(PO4)7:<i>x<\/i>Cr3+\u00a0(M = Ga, Sc, In, and Lu), showing a broadband NIR emission ranging from 700 to 1100 nm peaking at 850 nm upon the 485 nm light excitation. The emission peak position is almost independent of the type of M ion and the Cr3+\u00a0dopant content, and the type of M ion has little influence on the luminescence thermal\u00a0quenching, indicating that [MO6] octahedra are rigid enough to keep octahedral volumes and average M3+\u2013O2\u2013\u00a0distances nearly constant owing to the formation of the framework structure on Cr3+\u00a0substitution. The NIR emission intensities monotonously increase with the Cr3+\u00a0content increasing from 0 to 80% with\u00a0suppressed\u00a0concentration\u00a0quenching, the intensity of Sr9Cr(PO4)7\u00a0still maintains 84.23% of Sr9Ga0.2(PO4)7:0.8Cr3+\u00a0phosphor, and the thermal\u00a0quenching\u00a0behavior is slightly dependent on\u00a0<i>x<\/i>; these effects can be attributed to the\u00a0suppressed\u00a0energy transfer due to the\u00a0structural\u00a0confinement\u00a0effect. The optimal sample, Sr9Ga0.2(PO4)7:0.8Cr3+, has an internal\/external quantum\u00a0efficiency\u00a0of 66.3%\/29.9%. Finally, we fabricate a NIR phosphor-conversion light-emitting diode and demonstrate its applications in nondestructive examination and medical fields.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chem.
