Front.<\/strong><\/em>, 2021,<strong>5<\/strong>, 1468-1476 <a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.rsc.org\/en\/content\/articlelanding\/2021\/qm\/d0qm00932f\/unauth\">https:\/\/pubs.rsc.org\/en\/content\/articlelanding\/2021\/qm\/d0qm00932f\/unauth<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pubs.rsc.org\/en\/Image\/Get?imageInfo.ImageType=GA&amp;imageInfo.ImageIdentifier.ManuscriptID=D0QM00932F&amp;imageInfo.ImageIdentifier.Year=2021\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Photodynamic therapy needing ultraviolet (UV) in deep tissue is hindered due to the low biological tissue penetration ability of UV light. Here, we demonstrate a persistent ultraviolet-emitting phosphor, LiLuGeO<small><sub>4<\/sub><\/small>:Bi<small><sup>3+<\/sup><\/small>,Yb<small><sup>3+<\/sup><\/small>, which can be re-stimulated by near infrared (NIR) light. Yb<small><sup>3+<\/sup><\/small>-doping significantly enhances the trap density without changing the thermoluminescence peak positions. The phosphor can be effectively activated by a 254 nm lamp and exhibits prominent persistent luminescence peaking at 350 nm. The decay time can be recorded much longer than 15 h. This phosphor exhibits simulated&nbsp;<em>in vivo<\/em>&nbsp;photostimulated persistent luminescence after a longtime decay by using&nbsp;<em>in vitro<\/em>&nbsp;NIR light penetrating biological tissue. Combined with CaAlSiN<small><sub>3<\/sub><\/small>:Eu<small><sup>2+<\/sup><\/small>, red persistent luminescence from Eu<small><sup>2+<\/sup><\/small>&nbsp;is obtained. LiLuGeO<small><sub>4<\/sub><\/small>:Bi<small><sup>3+<\/sup><\/small>,Yb<small><sup>3+<\/sup><\/small>&nbsp;makes up the shortage of excellent UVA persistent phosphors. It is expected to have potential applications as an&nbsp;<em>in vivo<\/em>&nbsp;renewable excitation source to trigger photosensitizers or fluorescent probes when used for biophotonic applications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mater.
